The People and Culture team's purpose is to drive a positive employee experience by shaping the conditions, culture, and connections at Sport Wales. They do this by designing and delivering high‑quality initiatives, policies, and procedures; equipping people with the tools they need to achieve their potential; attracting, developing, and retaining diverse talent; and continuously strengthening an inclusive culture.

Jen Hill - Head of People & Culture

Tell us about your role? My role is about creating the conditions for people at Sport Wales to do their best work and feel valued while doing it. I lead on our people approach, culture, and equality work, making sure we’re building an inclusive, supportive, and high‑performing organisation. That means working closely with colleagues across Sport Wales and the Senior Leadership Team and overseeing the team’s work on things like organisational development, talent and workforce planning, employee wellbeing, and how we live our values day‑to‑day.

At its core, my role is about helping Sport Wales be a place where people can thrive — now and into the future.

If you could describe your work in three positive words, what would they be?

  1. Curious - I’m always keen to understand people — what motivates them, what they enjoy, and what’s going on for them beyond their job.
  2. Peoplecentred - I get most enjoyment through the connections I have with people. I value knowing people well and building trusted relationships.  It’s what I most enjoy about working at a smaller organisation.
  3. Impactful - I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing change actually happen. Because we’re small, you can feel the impact of changes we make — and that makes the work meaningful and motivating.

What’s something staff might not know about you?  I can play the saxophone. I was heavily influenced by Lisa Simpson when I was around 14 years old, and I love playing, although I don’t manage to find the time to play as much as I used to.  Also, I've recently come back from Disneyworld and am super keen to talk to about it with anyone who will listen!

Rosie Walters - People & Culture Lead

Tell us about your role? My role is all about making sure our people practices are effective, fair, and impactful. I provide advice to people across Sport Wales on a wide range of HR and organisational development matters, including employee relations challenges, workforce planning, learning and development, and organisational change. I help to ensure our policies and ways of working remain up to date, legally compliant, and reflective of our values. I also lead on projects and initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, promote wellbeing, and help shape a positive, inclusive culture.

If you could describe your work in three positive words, what would they be?

  1. Connected – My work allows me to work with and get to know people from every area of the business.
  2. Varied – No two days are the same, and people continue to surprise me.
  3. Adaptive – Responding to changing people and business needs keeps my work interesting and gives me constant opportunities to learn, grow, and think differently.

What’s something staff might not know about you? Despite my lack of sporting prowess now, I tried just about every activity there was as a kid. I fancied myself as a renowned equestrian, ballerina, and martial artist at various points during my childhood.
