In less than two weeks, the people of Wales will head to the polls to vote in the 2026 Senedd Election. As a public body, Sport Wales’ funding is largely allocated by the Welsh Government, excluding National Lottery funding, and the relationship between Sport Wales and the Welsh Government is vital to effective working.

Policy Officer, Rhiannon Hazell, has put together a summary of the sport policy commitments made by each political party in their manifestos which align with Sport Wales’ policy recommendations.

Plaid Cymru

  • Committed to developing a Daily Active Offer with Sport Wales, alongside increased funding of culture and sport year-on-year in the Senedd term.
  • Preventative health is a key theme of the manifesto, and investment in sport would also form part of this cross-departmental agenda, as it would promote physical and mental health and wellbeing across all Welsh Government activity and create a Minister for Public Health.
  • Committed to an audit of community and regional sporting facilities to better understand how to target capital investment.
